Injectose is revolutionizing injection molding by using cellulosic fiber composites that consist of 90–98% fibers after drying, producing fully recyclable packaging with complex shapes. Unlike the traditional approach to thermoplastic composites, Injectose avoids conventional polymer matrices (petro-based or bioplastics) that cause problems with recyclability and/or biodegradability. The process uses existing equipment and adapts it to reduce the carbon footprint and costs. The technology aims to match the production rates of plastics while producing a recyclable, low-carbon material. Several prototypes have been produced: coffee capsules, caps, closure clips, stoppers, and tensile and flexural test specimens.
